In that way I can separate the traffic used in multicasting the images from the "general office IP" traffic. I would like to set up 2 VLANS on the new switch: the first for general office traffic for the Vmware host, the virtualized servers it runs (which would be the 2008 DHCP server and the imaging server) and the trainers laptops, the second for the imaging network. This office is used mainly for training and as such they regularly use imaging software (currently ghost, soon to be altiris) to set up laptops for trainees. The office has a VMWare host upon which a Windows 2008 R2 server acts as a DHCP (and active directory) server doling out IPs to the laptops in the office on a 10.96.5.x range. I am planning to put in a new switch (Dell PowerEdge 2748) into one of our offices to segregate traffic between general office IP traffic and traffic used for image deployment.
